I have to admit I haven't jumped on the bandwagon in years past when Panetone has announced their colors of the year. "Radiant orchid", "rose quartz", and "marsala" were not colors I could really "dig my teeth into". When Panetone picked Greenery as the color of the year for 2017 it brought a smile to my face. As you know I am a big fan of bringing the outside in and blurring the lines between the inside and out.
My garden filled with the various greens of nature.
The message behind the hue is one that we can all identify with. It symbolizes new beginnings and the revival of nature that comes with the beginning of Spring.
It is an energizing yellow-green that wakes up the senses and beckons us to take notice. This is that time of year when we are all thinking about refreshing and revitalizing our interiors as well. It may not be a neutral in the home but it is "nature's neutral" so it blends with any and everything.
How can we incorporate this bright cheerful green into our own homes? If you are a big chicken like I am you probably aren't ready to blanket your entire home in this vibrant hue.
# 1 Accessories Add a little "Greenery" with accessories. Pillows, throws, pottery, or vintage glassware will pick up your spirits. We added these beautiful vintage green bottles to one of my client's sideboards

Love this splash of green in this black and white bedroom. It adds a spark of color while allowing the art to take center stage.

Love this look from Lauren Liess. The only pop of color are the plants the lampshade and the vintage asian birds. She is a genius isn't she?

Check out the latest HGTV Dream Home and note the green pillows and plants in an otherwise neutral setting by Brian Patrick Flynn

#2 Paint Paint is easy and relatively inexpensive to change
We painted a couple of walls at Farmers Union Pour House green to honor the agricultural heritage of the Salinas Valley.

Fresh glossy green in a windowless entry creates drama.

Paint a piece of furniture for a pop of color. They can easily be repainted later.

#3 Plants Bring the Outside In
Love the statement this plant makes in this beautiful dining room by Nancy Braithwaite. If you don't own her book Simplicity here. You should it is one of my favorites.

#4 Art- Make a simple statement with a beautiful oil painting in a neutral interior or large scale art for maximum impact
source
Love how the large greenery frames the smaller painting. This is styled by the wonderful Heather Bullard.

Even "Faux Art" can look pretty good when displayed interestingly. This is our lake house dining area. We rent it so real art is not an option!

This room by Andrew Brown for the Southeastern Showhouse combines all of the above. Adore this room!

This isn't a color I would go for, but your examples are beautiful. Even the glossy entryway. Done well, any color can work. My favorites here are the ones that use plants and green glass.

ReplyDeleteI believe the color green in a neutral as well. 2017 is my year since many of our walls are Nantucket Grey (a grey green) with pops of black here and there for accents. You always inspire me, Cindy!

Cindy there's so many photos here I'm drawn to--including your lake house dining room. I love your rustic-charming vibe. Now you've got me re-thinking my green glass lamp base--it's like the green jar in in the room styled by Heather Bullard. Hmmm...Maybe I'll keep it. I also like that bright happy shade of green you painted the wall at the farmer's Union Pour House. You sure did an amazing job on that place I will definitely get up there when the weather gets nice. It's been a busy time around here and I need a strong drink.

Cindy, Love this so much! I think this is my favorite post so far. I am a huge lover of green, neutrals and plants in the home. All of these are gorgeous and love the walls you did at the restaurant too! Beautiful inspiration here. x Kim
ReplyDeleteI agree Cindy....every space needs some greenery....and if you can get away with a decent looking faux then so be it!
