Our Home in Tuscan Style

I am so happy to announce that our own home is featured in the Spring/Summer issue of Tuscan Style that is now on newsstands. Locally Star Market in Salinas has copies as well as the Safeway at the mouth of the Valley in Carmel.  It can also be purchased at Barnes and Noble and often at Home Depot. The photos of our home begin on page 132.

I want to thank the editors for bearing with us.  The original scouting photos were of the downstairs before we painted it white.  The walls were glazed and the cabinets were green.  Bonnie sent them some sneak peeks of the changes that were taking place and thankfully they did not have a heart attack.
Here is what the kitchen looked like before with the dated glazed walls, and original mexican tile that had seen better days.

Here is the lovely after photo taken by John Granen and styled by the wonderful Bonnie Broten. We painted and glazed the cupboards, the concrete overlay counters were done by the wonderful Brenda Davis.   You can read about that here http://roughluxeperspective.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Here is a sneak peek of our dining room. This is one  of the pictures that did not make the cut. There is a beautiful full room photo by John in the magazine.

I love this picture of our dining room table.  The beauty of having pictures taken by a professional. Steve made this table when we were first married.  He used an old quilting frame base and hand scraped new boards for the top.  We banged it with chains, picks, nails etc. to give it some character. I then layered multiple finishes.
A sneak peek of our bedroom. another photo that was not chosen. Bed linens by Trish Banner of Cottage by Design and Pom Pom at Home.

I will post more pictures with sources and out takes after the magazine has been on the stands for awhile.
I want to thank the wonderful team of Bonnie Broten (editor and stylist extraordinaire),  John Granen for capturing the character of our home through his lens, and writer Nancy Richman Milligan for telling our story with such grace. As many of you know we plan to downsize sometime in the near future so we are so grateful that we have this photographic record of a home that has been so near and dear to our family.

  3. Beautiful! Your kitchen looks amazing. It's amazing how just a few (expensive) tweaks can make such a big impact...well, and a professional photographer. It's amazing how well they capture the quality of light.

I'm not sure they allow Tuscan Style in to New England but I'll look around for it. :)

    Congratulations!

It looks fabulous in all its new changes....you live in Salinas Ca? I lived in Morgan Hill, and Almaden Valley / Los Gatos area for years. I have uncle and cousins in the Gilroy / Salinas area, last name Serrano, they are all big contractors/developers.

  12. Absolutely beautiful! The thing is, your design work is so classic and timeless, yet for me, it captures a California vibe that invites one in for a relaxing visit. I can't wait to pick up my copy of the magazine.

  13. Cindy, I am so thrilled for you! I love every detail of your home but I must say the two things that stood out for me were your concrete countertops (a dream of mine) and your monogrammed dining chairs (to die for)! Can you share the chair source? I want them! Happy New Year!

  14. Congratulations Cindy! What a treat to see your beautiful, welcoming home. Of course it looks like they just walked in and took a few pictures, right! Only those of us who have been there know how much work you put into preparing for a photo shoot and assisting the team that actually took the pictures! Can't wait to read the entire story. John Granen photographed a project of mine that hopefully will be out this year in another publication. Wasn't he delightful!

    Thank you for sharing…Linda

    1. Thanks Anne!! The ceiling is also the floor above. We sandblasted it, chamfered the beams, painted and then scraped it almost 30 years ago and I am still happy with it!!
