For those of you just joining us this project is a house that was purchased to sell. You can read about it here http://roughluxeperspective.blogspot.com/2013/04/new-project-updating-50s-rancher.html , and here http://roughluxeperspective.blogspot.com/2013/05/new-projectkitchen-progress.html. I always have great intentions of taking more progress shots but the house was finished last week and is already on the market. Here is the newly remodeled kitchen.
Now let’s take a look back at what the kitchen when we first purchased the house.
Here is the kitchen looking from the family room .
Here is the same view of the kitchen now. As you can see this kitchen was really a dark hole. My son (Hattersley Construction) had the brilliant idea of adding a skylight which made a huge difference. Also the refrigerator will be where the oven once was and the range is located where that bank of cupboards are across the back.
Here is a shot of the South Side of the kitchen looking into the living room. Notice the dark paneling.
The sink and dishwasher are basically in the same location but a bank of upper cabinets were added so to gain more cupboard space.
Another one of the boys’ brilliant ideas was to take out this hideous shelf and replace it with a wraparound bar
There is plenty of room for four bar stools even though I staged it with only two, and the kitchen became much more accessible to the family room.
When I first saw this space we envisioned open shelving across the back wall to give it a more up to date look. Here is what it looked like before we added the shelves
In my next post I will list the sources for the kitchen. Keep in mind that this house was remodeled to sell. Hence we had a strict budget. If anyone is interested the house is for sale. You can find the listing here http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/177-Lorimer-St_Salinas_CA_93901_M23234-89407. I think our wonderful realtor Bill Huber of Huber Real Estate will be having an open house next weekend for those that are interested.

ReplyDeleteHi. I am quite interested in this project as I just purchased a new old home in Santa Fe and we have a limited to no budget but the kitchen desperately needs an update. I'm wondering if you wouldn't mind letting me know the approximate cost and if you know good people in Santa Fe? Love you blog in general! Monica Bracht mizbracht@msn.com. Thanks kindly.

What a transformation and an excellent result! The skylight, open shelves and wrap around bar were all great ideas. I love the light fittings and the yellow accessories - those bowls are gorgeous! Thank you for your lovely comment - I'm pleased you enjoyed my tour.
ReplyDeleteCindy, it's lovely! The shelves really make all the difference on that far wall. Bravo! I'm really impressed!

Oh wow! So many ideas to "steal" and file away in my brain for future use in my own home. I just wish inexpensive subway tile was available cheaply in South Africa. :-( Oh well! I'll just keep drooling over your images...
