I have a dog puppy named Beau. He’s a sweet and very loveable.
He also drags charred firewood into the house. He rolls all over the rugs after a swim. I had nice rugs in my house BB. They are all now MIA. I would like to test the waters now that Beau is grown up and mature (at least he doesn’t eat them anymore). I am not going to experiment with an expensive Oushak, Kilim or Needlepoint. Sooo… I have been on the search for some inexpensive alternatives and have been surprised by what I have found. World Market has their plain weave jute rug in several sizes http://www.worldmarket.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4286629&clickid=body_rv_img, ranging from $16.99 for a throw to $149.99 for a 6 x 9. I used the small ones at our like house in the bathrooms.
The Tarnby rug from IKEA http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60050172/#/80050171 is an even better bargain at $149.00 for a 6’7 x 9’ 10. I am trying this in my family room . Beau likes it too.
Slightly more expensive but on sale right now at PB, their Flat Braided Jute Rug http://www.potterybarn.com/products/flat-braid-jute-rug/?pkey=climited-rugs , $289.00 for a 5 x 8.
I have not seen this one in person but am loving the Recycled Denim Jute Rug from West Elm http://www.westelm.com/products/recycled-denim-jute-rug-t011/?pkey=crugs-by-material $279 for an 8 x 10
Their Gradiated Stripe Rug is just $299 for a 9 x 12 http://www.westelm.com/products/gradiated-stripe-cotton-rug-t003/?pkey=cchenille-cotton-rugs. I think that black and white beauty would look great in my guest room.
Better yet and with an even better price point…how about the Stockholm Rand from IKEA http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80104862/#/80104862 at $199 for a 5’7 x 7’ 10
I just had a client order Pottery Barn’s 8’Round Jute Rug http://www.potterybarn.com/products/round-jute-rug/, for $199.00. It is a huge bargain and it is so hard to find non custom good looking round rugs at a decent price point.
At these great prices Beau can even invite his friends over….or not…
Beau is a lucky boy! He and his friends are having a grand time, aren't they? Great post, Cindy. I'm on the hunt for an inexpensive rug for our newly renovated basement. I can totally relate to everything. With 2 dogs, it's double the trouble. Cheers!

Great post...I have the large round jute rug from Pottery Barn in my mudroom area...I took up an expensive oriental that was dark colors with reds and replaced it with this...I love it. Mona
ReplyDeleteOne more thing...we lost our little dog in January...she was 15 and we still called her a puppy when she died...they are all puppies because they are just precious babies. XO

ReplyDeleteYou are so funny, Cindy. Loved this post...I'm glad Beau likes your new choices in rugs...I think the black and white stripped rug would show off his white coat the best...
ReplyDeleteKaren is that you? Sorry don't recognize the incognito name!!
DeleteLoved this post! Beau is one handsome fella! Ella would love them (she loves her boys!) And that photo of Beau with his friends is a hoot! I've seen the round jute rug and just adore it- unfortunately can't find a home for it though!!

ReplyDeleteTHis is cute. I live on a farm and we are getting a golden retriever puppy next week! Wish me luck, since I have spent the last few empty nest years redecorating my house.. What's life without animals, anyway?

I'd like your input on the Ikea rug- how is it holding up a year later? Does it shed? Has it held up against "puppy-paws"? I am considering this for my family room but have concerns for the wear and tear- especially with our dog.
