Red is vibrant and powerful. It always makes a statement . Full of drama and passion a splash of red can bring a room alive. Alessandra Branca loves red and always uses it to perfection. I consider her the red guru.

Take a look at the room below imagine it without the red?

I would probably never have the guts to layer the patterns like Sig Bergman did in the room below, but I am completely smitten with this this room.

The addition of red in this space lights up this room.
Carrier and Company
Although many say never use red in the bedroom, as it is too stimulating, this room is crazy good!

Kathryn Ireland, like Alesandra Branca , almost always adds a dash of red in her designs. Love the lampshades!!

The striped chairs in this room by Dan Marty call this room to attention…love them!!

I love this space by Gary McBournie. I love the way he sneaks in the use of red, almost as if it were an afterthought.

How do you feel about red? Have you used it in your own home? Do you think a little goes a long way? I will be back on Monday with some of my favorite coffee tables. Next Friday Maryann from Classic Casual Home, myself and some of your favorite bloggers will have another Project Design surprise you won't want to miss!
Haven't really other than during Christmas, I should, these are all inspiring and yup, just a little goes a long way for me! Happy V day Cindy!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and this posting is an excellent one!
ReplyDeleteWhat strikes me about the photos is that the bold, strong color is used -- mostly -- on decorative accessories -- which COULD be changed for other colors, styles and patterns! Such a great strategy for décor ideas at all price points -- to use a dash of color with a good dose of common sense!

You are absolutely right Jan that is exactly what makes these work!!
DeleteTOTALLY addicted to the color, and yes, Jan is so right. Using it on accessories allows you to be able to change it out for other colors when/if the mood strikes.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Valentine's weekend Cindy!
Of course you love red!!! You definitely know how to work it too Kelly!
DeleteI love all the rooms, especially the Carrier and Company living room! Though I would never choose red as a design color, I do appreciate how just adding accent touches, using earthy tones like you've shown, really enriches the spaces!
ReplyDeleteI need those red striped chairs in my life right now. So happy looking!
ReplyDeleteI know me too....Leslie...we must be feeling the same way!!
DeleteCindy,
ReplyDeleteI do love red and have a bit of it in my family room. I loved Dan Marty's work and was saddened when I heard that he passed away this past September from a battle with cancer. Love that room and everything in it.
Enjoy your weekend and Valentine's Day.
xo,
Karen
I love all of these examples...I didn't know Dan Marty had passed away...love his work!

ReplyDeleteI love your observations…and I've been noticing red oriental rugs coming back. Happy Valentines Day!

Hi Cindy! Happy Valentine's Day:) Yes, a little red goes a long way .. but I have grown to like it (pink too!). Just a pop here and there is perfect. Adding a throw or choosing a fabric with a bit of red is a great way to incorporate the color without it being overpowering. I have a really pretty glassy baby votive that ~ when placed in my white kitchen really makes a statement when I light it. It's so small but there is just something about a little pop of red:)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend! xxleslie
Bold and beautiful. Every room needs a pop of color and I love how it's been handled in each of these rooms, especially the "gutsy" Sig Hartman room. Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteLove the use of red in all these rooms. Gorgeous post! Looking forward to next week! :-)

Very nice! A little red goes a long way. It can easily overwhelm but, used strategically, it makes the perfect accent and the perfect frame, as these pics show so well. Thanks!
