Tancredi & Morgen in my mind is in a class by itself. I have been in shops in the Napa and Sonoma Valley, Italy, Santa Barbara, and Maine. Quite honestly I have never been in a shop that compares to Tancredi & Morgen. The best part is it is in my own backyard . I have known Marsha and Roger Aldis for over twenty years and I appreciate the incredible amount of effort it takes to maintain the level of excellence that they have managed to achieve year after year.
I don’t always get by as often as I like but every single time I walk through the door I am awestruck. Marsha Aldis is quite honestly one of the most creative creatures on earth. Occasionally I will be patting myself on the back ( so to speak) for something I am particularly happy with and then I walk in her shop and am completely humbled.
Let’s see…she designs her own clothes (she was a apparel designer at one point by the way). I have several of her shirts hanging in my own closet. She also stocks a few bohemian boutique brands that strike her fancy from time to time.
She designs the most incredible pillows. I still have some of her earlier creations in my own home. I have had this pillow for probably 15 years and I still love it. It resides in my newly updated guest room at the moment.
She combines vintage fabrics with new to create one of a kind pillows that are in a class by themselves. Her latest creations are a mix of vintage suzani’s , crazy quilt pieces, and whatever else she finds interesting. I came looking for pillows for a client and left craving several for my own home.
While Marsha creates magic with her textiles Roger scours the globe for one of a kind treasures for the home and garden.
If you visit the Monterey Peninsula a trip to their shop is a must. You can keep up with what is happening and find directions here http://www.tancredimorgen.com/tancredimorgen.com/HOME.html. The Christmas season is a particularly delightful time to visit as Marsha creates one of a kind ornaments that can be treasured year after year. My tree is filled with them.

I could definitely spend some time and money in this gorgeous boutique if only I lived near there. So much creativity and I love the combination of the vintage fabrics on the cushions.

What a cool and eclectic shop! Thanks for sourcing Tancredi & Morgen. I'm saving this for a future trip. It's been too long since I've visited your area, Cindy. Tom's niece is spending her honeymoon there now.

Very talented indeed! Lots of temptation here and your pictures are wonderful. I will be bookmarking this post! We've spent lots of time in the Monterey and Carmel area ( beautiful countryside!) and I will make sure to stop by the next time we are there.

Hi Cindy, I have been a fan of Tancredi and Morgen since they were featured in Victoria magazine years ago...always fashion forward, and ahead of their time...as a former shop owner,I know the demands of shop keeping and the need to always re-invent yourself to keep your customers coming back...they are pros at what they do...how lucky you can drop in any time...I am envious! ReplyDeletei really must check out the shop in maine.
ReplyDeletei am off to find it!
xx
Cindy I love this shop! So nice to see you feature it! I always try to stop here on my way to Carmel. I also have bought some things I treasure here. I bought my boys the most darling wool blankets with maps on them (from Austria I think) they carried. We still have them and I'm sure they will be heirlooms one day. I just wish there were more stores and folks who have such a great eye for the unique items as they do! Those kind of shops are getting ever fewer and far between!
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
