Nate Berkus (at Target) and My Dad

As a follow up to my recent post on Nate’s fabric collection at Calico Corners, please check out his Spring collection at Target.  My father is moving out here from Texas and I was looking for some items to outfit his new condo ( on the cheap). Let me give you a little background information on my dad.  He is a conservative Midwesterner  transplanted to Texas many years ago. He is 90 years old.  He still works out at the gym (albeit lightly) nearly every day, and walks  “in the mall” regularly as well. He still drives and cooks all of his own extremely healthy meals.  My niece reminded me that many of Nate’s items are now on sale at Target. I thought I should check them out for dad (yeah right).  Here are a few of Nate’s things from his spring collection that I found particularly interesting.  If you can find them on sale at your local target all the better.
Nate Berkus Decorative Ram’s Head, Nate Berkus Quilted Lacquer 5”x7” Picture Frame in Yellow, and Nate Berkus Round Studded Tray in Brown

This rug comes in sizes 2 x 3 and 5 x 7….. I knew better than to pick one of these up for my dad…great looking, but we won’t even go there!

I almost grabbed (well I even made it to the cash register) one of these sets, and then I thought…who am I kidding? He would rather have soft soap in a pump as it is much more practical.

I thought this lamp base looked far more expensive than it’s $49.99 price tag.  I am pretty sure my dad would think this was expensive even though I think it is a steal!  I passed it up but I have to say it killed me!

And it looks amazing with this black shade for $29.99

I picked up this little basket for my dad to organize his pills.  They have to be close at hand.  He probably won’t be nearly as impressed by it as I.

I love this brass pebbled bowl.  I think my dad would approve of this at $8. Maybe my dad could fill it with his keys, the remote, dental floss….enough said….

I picked up a set of Nate’s towels in Curry for my dad.  He likes thin towels.  I hope no one tells him these are “designer” towels.

I had to keep reminding myself.  He is cheap, 90, and could care less about decorating.  Why is it I just can’t give it up?  I will post pictures of the finished  “ultra cheap” product if it is fit to publish…not likely….Oh did I mention his “comfortable” chair is an office chair from Walmart? No Lazy Boys for him!! Nate help!!

  2. Cindy, This cracked me up! Reminds me of my parents! Your dad sounds like a real character ! How cool you still have him.

I love Nate's things and bought one of the boxes. The round tray is so chic too! How about the thin towel thing? I hated that and bought my parents new ones at Restoration and they don't use them because they are too thick. :l

  4. Loved this blog, Cindy! What a character he is....and always has been. Love that guy! I'm sure his new spot will be fabulous....and done to his liking. You have that "special touch" that's needed to make it seem like "a deal," but with class! Can't wait to see photos. Cheryl

  5. People who live to be 90 have a right to be quirky. How fortunate that he is still so independent. Wish I had your gene pool. I am sure his new place will be lovely -- even with the Walmart chair. Nate's items from Target look much more expensive than they are. You have chosen some good ones.
