For those of you just dropping in, about four months ago we bought a little cottage to flip. The boys worked on it when work permitted and we finished it and put it on the market a couple of days before Christmas. All the sources for this little bath can be found on my pinterest board here http://pinterest.com/chattersley/hawthorne/
After…We tore out the original vanity and replaced it with a parsons style vanity crafted by Micheli Woodworks. This created a more open look as the bathroom is small.
The lights are from the Martha Stewart Collection for Home Depot here. The mirrors are also from Home Depot.
The Vessel Sinks are ample in size. They are currently out of stock but similar ones can be found here http://www.lowes.com/pd_212812-35272-1441-CWH_0__?productId=4326717&cm_mmc=SCE_PLA-_-Plumbing-_-BathroomSinks-_-4326717&%22cagpspn=pla%22 We were lucky enough to find the Calcutta Marble as a scrap. The faucets are Belle Fioret. The baskets are from World Market.
The shower tile is the same simple (yet classic) subway tile used in the kitchen (only with white grout ), found at Home Depot or Lowes. Faucets are Belle Fioret.
The floor is natural slate and can be found at Lowes.
There was a tricky little bathroom located off the laundry room that was pretty worthless. The boys had the idea to take this space, steal a little space from a closet in one of the bedrooms (it had two) so there would be another small but mighty workable bathroom off the bedroom.
They took this lovely space
And turned it into this
This tiny/sink vanity combo is another IKEA find. The smallest pedestal sink (our original choice) we could find would have made the bathroom too crowded. Excuse the dark mirror, I think it needs a long thin gray or silver mirror.
Many of the homes of this size and vintage have three bedrooms and one bath. An extra bath no matter how tiny is invaluable. This is a European style damless shower. The tile again is subway tile with a glass liner to give it a little interest.
The bedrooms were pretty much left as is. They had the wonderful board and batten walls that were just given a fresh coat of Benjamin Moore White Dove. The hardwood floors were refinished. The “boys” took one funny armoire/closet and turned it into a real closet. Unfortunately I do not have a photo of the transformation.
We used the simple (small), inexpensive school house lights from Home Depot throughout the halls and bedrooms. I didn’t care for their larger ones.
Since the house is small I felt it important to keep as much continuity with the paint, surfaces, fixtures, and flooring as possible. The hallway, living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry and baths were all painted with Benjamin Moore Halo. The bedrooms and all trim are White Dove also from Benjamin Moore.
Below are before and after pictures of the front of the house. Unfortunately it does not photograph very well.
There was too much concrete in front of the house. There was already a driveway that leads to the garage in back. They tore out the “second driveway” and the concrete sidewalk, sodded the lawn and added the cobblestone walk. We added a few simple foundation plantings to ground the house.
The body of the house is painted Iron Mountain by Benjamin Moore. The trim is also Benjamin Moore (White Dove)
The front door is painted Straw by Farrow and Ball
It was so much fun working on this house because it had so much character. The house was on the market for four days and had multiple offers. It is currently in escrow thanks to our wonderful realtor and friend Bill Huber http://billhuber.mlslidx.com/idx/homepage.cfm?cid=51094. Thanks Bill!

It looks fantastic...love the transformation in the bathrooms...and the front of the house looks completely different. Doesn't even look like the same house. Love the paint color. I'm going to have to remember that one.
ReplyDeleteCindy...I absolutely love what you have done...the colours inside and out are perfect. The transformation is spectacular. Can not wait to hear about the final outcome...say you are pleased when it is sold and we will know. :) xx
ReplyDeleteYou all did a great job transforming this house on a budget. I can see why it sold so quickly. Congratulations and thanks for all the source material.

A truly very successful transformation! A clear line and carefully chosen details.
ReplyDeleteI personally would replace the dark mirror with a simple long and rather large mirror without any frame at all. The reflection of the 'room' in it would give a more spacious feel. But I don't have to tell you what to do, you've done a brilliant job! Just a suggestion.
Greetings from the Périgord and best wishes for 2013 and - of course - for a successful sale!

p.s. Thank you very much indeed for your visit on my blog and your comment.
Sorry about my English :-(
I just found your blog via Collage of Life and wanted to say that I loved your transformation of this little cottage. I would love to get my hands on a cottage like that - for myself! You made great decisions and really up-dated it.
