Whether on their own or together these two can make a bold statement.? Do we love them because they can pack a powerful punch ? Or is it because they are also so classic and timeless?
I love it when the duo is paired with a lot of texture so that it tones down the contrast.
The armoire and picture frame in this Daryl Carter designed room creates a bold statement against the stark white walls. The rest of the room is quietly peaceful.
This textile is the star of this room against a gray wall.
Here the walls are a biscuit color. Notice how the background of the large pillow and the art echo the color of the walls. Here the statement is subtle.
I adore this room. The addition of texture and “the not so black” accessories lighten the effect.
This painting is the star of this setting. Can you imagine it without it?
I am crazy about this vignette….. the clever mix of the art with the folk art.
More Daryl Carter…does anyone do Black and White better than he?
Me thinks a stylist did this. What do you think?
Do you have a favorite? Would you or do you use black and white in your own home? If so how?

Cindy, I'm a huge black lover. So dramatic. I'm not a "homey" style, but I do love all this...so maybe my style is changing? And, I love YOU !
ReplyDeleteCindy,
ReplyDeleteI love the clock in the all white kitchen. I need that Island with the iron shelving–beautiful.

I adore every image...love black and white decor...as much as I love looking at it...I cant live with it in my own home. I do have a little black in every room though. It helps ground the room.
ReplyDeleteThe Veranda image is my favorite. I love black and white. It is so dramatic yet simple.
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy, all of your images are so spot on. I agree Daryl cater is a master of this look. I do have another favorite: Briggs Edward Soloman. Google him and look at his portfolio, I know you will be inspired!

Hi Cindy, I adore black and white, in fashion and in home decor. The combo always looks fresh, smart and ultra stylish. I did a post awhile back about black and white stripes. Kind of loving that kind of vibe. Lovely post-as always!!

What a wonderful collection of images to illustrate your thoughts-- I love black and white when, as you've pointd out, its softened by middle tones and some natural elements. I think my favorite one is the room with the huge painting and the black carved table -- so cool!
ReplyDeleteI love it. We did black and white posts last week, too. It's the latest trend I think.Have a great weekend.
