We Bought a Little Cottage….Kitchen Reveal!

 

About four months ago we bough a little cottage (fixer upper)  to flip. You can read about it here http://roughluxeperspective.blogspot.com/2012/08/we-bought-little-cottage.html The house had great bones and a lot of character to begin with but it needed a little TLC. I had planned to document progress weekly but other jobs intervened and tey took priority so here we are!                               Colin and Steve (and Lauren) spent hours removing the hideous linoleum and all the staples.

If I were the buyer of this house I would hang Hunter Douglas grass (or something similar) blinds all the way to the ceiling on each window to disguise the funny windows.

 

Steve wondered about installing the tile to the top of the windows over the sink…he may have been right! The pendant lights are the Home Depot polished nickel kettle pendants for $79.99.

All of the cabinets are from IKEA as well as the farmhouse sink.  The faucet is from Elements of Design. I personally thought the quality of the IKEA faucets was lacking.  This brand does a good job while keeping the price point reasonable. I purchased this one from efaucets.com. They are constantly having sales and I got this faucet for around $175

 

 

The cabinet hardware is from Home Depot.  The bin pulls are from the Martha Stewart Collection. The knobs are from Home Depots Liberty Collection.  I did not care for Martha’s companion knob.

 

                                                

The countertop is absolut noir (caesar stone)  from IKEA as well.

Back of the Kitchen  Now.  They moved the  water heater to a more (and safer) location and look at all the cupboards they gained. Knife and Spoon Art are from World Market.  The floors are original vertical grained douglas fir (found under the linoleum). We decided to give the kitchen a sleeker look with the dark floors.

Tile is inexpensive subway tile with charcoal grout. The tile can be found at either Lowes or Home Depot.  It is extremely reasonable and in my opinion has great bang for the buck.  We debated about using white grout or charcoal grout. In the end we decided to use the charcoal grout for a more modern look to tie it in with the black counters and dark floors. We decided against it in the bathrooms as you will see in a following post.

 

  

 

A final note…anyone skeptical of using IKEA cabinets and counters ( I know I was!) we were extremely surprised.  My husband and son do very  high end work.  It was hard for me to convince them to consider IKEA cabinets.  The hinges and drawer guides are some of the best on the market.  The quartz counters are contracted out to local fabricators.  Consequently you get a lot of bang for your buck.
