As I Designer I try to resist crazy trends. It is my responsibility to create an environment that is both functional and stylish yet reflects the personality of the owner. That said am I crazy or is this about the quirkiest trend of late?
I admit sometimes they are quite lovely such as in this application. Everything about this kitchen is just luscious!

Love the look here too…But does anyone eat or cook at this counter?

This kitchen is absolutely stunning! I love everything about it, but if my family were anywhere near that counter someone would knock one of those lamps off within minutes.
I am nearly positive whomever owns this kitchen does not cook or eat . It is so beautiful though, isn’t it?
Love this masculine kitchen from Peter Dunham but again I just visualize these lamps getting grease or food splashed on those lovely white shades.

Maybe I find this trend impractical because I have a dog that drinks out of birdbaths and lays on tables?
What do you think? Is this a quirky trend? Would lamps be practical on an island in your kitchen? I would love to hear your comments.

Can't have too many lamps.
ReplyDeleteMy cats restrict a lot of the interiors here !
I look at beautiful rooms and think, "no cat there."

love your blog . . . am a {former} designer turned stay-at-home-momma and there is just no way a lamp would survive in my kitchen. my dogs can't reach the counters, but the sticky-fingered little people can!
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of your dog. :) I adore this look but have also wondered how functional it could actually be. I would do it if I had a corner off to the side where it wouldn't get splattered or knocked over, but otherwise I agree - these kitchens don't look very realistic!

Hey Cindy - I love lamps everywhere! But some of those seem kind of staged for photography...maybe?? I think a small lamp tucked into a corner of the countertop is nice. Love your doggie! Loi in DC
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog via Pinterest and I love it! I am a fan of the lamps in the kitchen. I just love the cozy light they give. I have always had one on the counter and like to have it on in the evening. I have 2 boys and 2 cats and so far, no toppled lamps yet!
ReplyDeleteAll these photos are great. Love your dog too!
