Six Week One Room Challenge Guest Bedroom Makeover The Reveal

Whew! I can’t believe six weeks has passed….well yes I can! A lot has been accomplished yet there is a bit of fine tuning yet to be made! Here is what the room looked like before. As you remember I moved these beds intact into my son’s old room you can see that transformation here http://roughluxeperspective.blogspot.com/2013/07/guest-bedroom-update.html .

Here is what it looks like now.  I decided to move the bed in front of the window. We needed a king size bed (for our 6’8 son in law) and it looked to crowded on the wall where the twin beds were.  There was only enough room for one bedside table.  I think it is much nicer to have two tables (one for each guest) if possible.  I wasn’t sure if I was going to like a bed in front of the window but I think I am liking it.

The duvet cover, king shams, dust ruffle and Euro Shams are all from the wonderful Pom Pom at Home http://www.pompomathome.com/. All of which I hope to handle in my online store .  If you are interested in any of their products before my store is up and running please contact me for pricing. The boudoir pillow is constructed of vintage french linen and an old hand towel.

Instead of hanging art above the bedside tables I decided to prop a pair of old white shutters that I already owned.  The bedside tables are antique and were shopped from elsewhere in my house. The lamps (per my previous post) were made by Mr. H from an old pillar with Nate Berkus (from Target) shades.  The pot is constructed of oyster shells and is filled with sponge coral.

The curtains were made by the wonderful Yvonne of Soft Accents in a natural flax linen.  The window shade needs to go (the color is off).  The curtain rod is simple iron from the Antique Drapery Rod company (another favorite company of mine). The quilt is from Restoration Hardware in Prairie http://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1730273&categoryId=cat1476019.  They actually sent the wrong color (I ordered sand) but I ended up liking it.

The fabulous natural hide rug is from World Market here http://www.worldmarket.com/product/brazilian-cowhide-rug.do?from=Search&cx=0

These beautiful bird prints are from Spicer and company here .  The decoy, covered basket , and blanket chest are all from my collection.

This chair (an old pier one find) was sourced from my daughter’s former room

It was spray painted in Khaki and glazed with a dark walnut stain.  The cushions were constructed of the same linen as the curtains by the amazing Katie Baker of Katie Baker slipcovers. The pillows are temporary until I find a good replacement.

  27. Well done, Cindy!
It looks inviting and cozy! Nothing wrong with having the bed in front of the window as long as there is no draft. Love the natural colors and - love the khaki color for the wicker chair! It blends in perfectly.
    Again - simply good!
    Warmest greetings, Karin
