Gary McBournie, Master of American Style…and we have a winner!!

My husband and I have collected American Antiques for over 40 years.  Steve’s mother collected antiques and we began collecting while in college.  I had an antique business in the 70’s and 80’s .  We made biannual buying  trips to the East Coast and were able to supplement our own collection by doing so.  I have tried to ease into a more ‘global” collection but our heart is still in American Antiques. American Antiques over the years has peaked and bowed in popularity while presently the belgian/french/swedish model is so very now.  I have admired Gary’s style forever.  I particularly appreciate how he has been able to remain true to his roots but remain current. I think that is an art in itself.  Gary McBournie describes his style as’ classic American design with a subtle twist on tradition’. Take a look at the images below.  I have mingled  the old with the new. Can you tell which designs are current and which are from years past?

These image below is from Gary McBournie’s Nantucket home that appeared in Traditional Home.  I am amazed at how current and fresh tit still looks.. McBournie painted the watercolors of shells above the sofa himself.

  1. Hi, Cindy -
I love those rooms! Each one is UNIQUE and thoughtfully done. The antiques are beautiful, timeless and used in a creative way. And many of the rooms have a touch of whimsy and a folk quality. Gary McBournie is a very talented designer.
